How to Set Up Permalinks in WordPress
When you set up permalinks in WordPress it is important to select the Custom Structure before publishing your content.
If you have drafts that you have yet to publish, then it is still o.k. to turn this feature on before you publish your posts and pages. The problem with turning this feature on after you have used the default or another permalink setting, is that any old posts you have linked outside of your site will be broken and not correctly link back to your site.
So, it is best to select the correct setting when you set up permalinks in WordPress from the beginning. However, if you haven’t set up outside backlinks to your site then go ahead and do it now by logging in to your dashboard and selecting Settings in the navbar to the left. Then click on Permalinks. On the Permalinks page select the radio button for the Custom Structure and type in %postname%.
This will help your site get ranked with the search engines much faster when you set up permalinks in WordPress with keywords in the title of your posts.
